Timber Homestead
The frame and much of the home are using recycled materials. The timbers are salvaged from Badger Munitions by the Habitat for Humanity Restore. Doors and windows, granite, and many other materials are all salvaged by Restore efforts. Foundation work is made from Durisol Compostie Block. Durisol is a recycled woodchip and cement composite that is very strong, a great insulator, and a superior plaster base for our natural clay plasters. Another favorite finish for the Acorn crew involves locally harvested rough sawn white oak siding. Here we installed natural edge beveled siding to create a beautiful rustic log cabin style finish that will wheather and withstand the harsh wisconsin winters for the next century.
